Voyages of Natural Discovery (w/t)
"Voyages of Natural Discovery" is a PBS-style series currently
in production for a 2001-02 broadcast. This four-part blue-chip
documentary is being produced in connection with the International
Biodiversity Observation Year (2001-02) to provide the public
with a fundamental understanding of how scientific exploration
of the nature of biodiversity and the realization of its importance
to our own survival has developed. Voyages uses the fascinating
narratives of individuals involved in natural exploration - from
Alexander von Humboldt and Alfred Wallace to William Beebe and
Al Gentry - and the chain of discoveries that contributed to the
history of biodiversity science, to give the public a solid foundation
for understanding the scientific principles and issues surrounding
biodiversity and conservation.
